![]() Jan Dryden MICHT, TATH, Certs. IHM, TFM, Reiki Master/TeacherMy first experience of complementary therapies was in my late teens. I received weekly Aromatherapy treatments as part of a research project into Endometriosis pain management. I enjoyed the relaxation of having aromatherapy massage and went on to learn the basics of Massage therapy and the use of essential oils and natural remedies.Although I continued to use massage, essential oils and natural remedies within my own family, I spent 10 years working with youth and community schemes and eventually started a volunteer project in my local community to support and offer practical help to families in their own home, or placements at the family centre. It was during this time that my learning was focussed on counselling, training and coaching, as well as business and management training. My interest in complementary therapies took a back seat for a while. It was while I was working for a Health & Fitness company in London that I was re-introduced to complementary therapies. I was suffering terrible Migraines. A colleague recommended that I try a course of Reflexology. I have to admit that I was sceptical, what could “twiddling my toes” do for my headaches?" But I was amazed! After only 6 treatments I was feeling wonderful, and migraine free! Continuing with my own reflexology treatments has helped me to remain migraine-free for several years. I trained with an AoR (Association of Reflexologists) accredited school and then continued with post-graduate studies for Precision Reflexology, Touch Point and Maternity Reflexology developing my Reflexology techniques to help clients with Gynaecological disorders, Sub-fertility and Maternity. This work has been especially rewarding. Over the years my techniques have become more refined and my understanding of the spiritual, mental and physical aspect of a person has widened as a result of personal and professional experience and further education. I get great satisfaction from seeing the difference that reflexology and complementary therapies make to clients mental, emotional and physical well-being. As I have benefited personally from complementary therapies such as Hopi Ear Candling, Indian Head Massage and Reiki, I have gained these qualifications and am able to offer these therapies to my clients. This enables me to offer a more holistic approach to assisting my clients towards optimum health. Continual personal and professional development are very important to me. I'm facinated by the Mind-Body connection and energy therapies and enjoy exploring and learning different techniques. Work - Life BalanceI spend some of my leisure time outdoors. I like country walking and photography, and I love spending time with my family and friends. Family days are great fun with my four year old grandson. He's such a joy!I try to enjoy a new experience, or at least do something that's exciting and memorable every month. It's great to look back at the end of the year and remember all the joyful moments I've had. In 2009 I've enjoyed some great trips to places like the Lake District, Glocestershire and The Cotswolds; Gliding in Bedfordshire; Training to dive with a rebreather in the Red Sea; and the ultimate experience this year of diving wrecks from from the second world war in the Pacific. This has been a 10-year ambition and took a lot of preparation to get there. I look forward to new experiences in 2010! I've enjoyed many years of scuba diving, exploring reefs and wrecks in the UK, Europe, Egypt and the Maldives. I recently joined a technical expedition dive team on a trip to dive the WW2 Wrecks in Truk Lagoon, Micronesia. What an amazing experience!! |
