Reflexology #01

Reflexology

What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is an ancient, natural therapy, which involves the application of gentle finger and thumb pressure techniques on specific reflex points to stimulate the body's detoxification and self-healing process.

The earliest pictorial evidence of reflexology was discovered in the tomb of Ankm'ahor, an Egyptian physician in Saqqara, dated 2330 BC. Native American Indian tribes and Chinese used a version of this foot therapy in the seventeenth century, and continue to do so today.

Reflexology as we know it, has been practiced in Europe since the early 1960's.

How does it work?
There are points, or reflexes on the feet that relate to the structure of the body, major organs, glands and body systems. Imbalances within the body can be detected and effectively treated to restore balance, well-being and a deep sense of relaxation.

Who can it help?

Reflexology is suitable for people of all ages from babies and toddlers to the elderly. It is also very beneficial for Maternity & sub-fertility clients.

  • Reflexology #02What to expect:

Your first appointment involves an initial consultation to develop a medical case history and discuss any health concerns. You will then be asked to remove only your shoes and socks before relaxing comfortably on the treatment couch or recliner chair.

Once you are comfortable, I will examine your feet and then starting with a relaxing foot massage to open up the reflexes and help you to relax, I will commence your treatment.

    Will it tickle or hurt?

Reflexology shouldn't tickle or hurt. During the treatment the feet are supported at all times, the grip is just firm enough not to tickle, but not too firm that it's uncomfortable.

Firm pressure is applied to the reflex points on the feet but this should not hurt. You may have an area that feels a little tender or sensative, which may reflect that the corresponding area in the body is imbalanced. The practitioner will work this reflex area with sensativity to stimulate the body's healing process to rebalance the area.
